And the 2018 European CEV Cup Champion is… Eczacıbaşı VitrA!

Eczacıbaşı VitrA has added a new European triumph to its international achievements: the 2018 European CEV Cup! Following a 3-1 win in its first finals match against Minchanka Minsk on its opponent’s home court in Belorussia, Eczacıbaşı VitrA crushed its rival 3-0 in Istanbul to become the 2018 CEV Cup champions. The undisputed leader throughout the playoffs , the orange and white team won every one of its 10 CEV Cup matches, ceding zero points to its six playoff rivals.

After eliminating first VC Oudegem, then Yamamay e-work Busto Arsizio, Yenisei Krasnoyarsk and SSC Palmberg Schwerin,  Eczacıbaşı VitrA pushed its final rival out of the running to become the undefeated tournament champion, winning 30 of its 34 sets.

This is the second time that Eczacıbaşı VitrA has won the CEV Cup; the first was in 1999 when the tournament was called the CEV Cup Winners Cup. Overall, this is the fifth cup that Eczacıbaşı VitrA has won in international tournaments.

The orange white team’s victory was celebrated around Turkey and led to a flurry of congratulatory messages and commentary on social media.

In his statement to the press, Eczacıbaşı Sports Club President Faruk Eczacıbaşı conveyed his pride in the team and technical staff and said, “At the start of the season, we formed a young but very powerful team We had full confidence in both our players and head coach. We’ve now achieved one of our goals for the year. Our team’s performance in Europe has made all of us very proud and I congratulate every one of them. Next up are the national league finals.  We want to finish the season with the Turkish League championship.”

Eczacıbaşı VitrA’s young star Tijana Boskovic, the highest scorer in the final match with 13 points, received the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award.
