Izmir Foundation for Culture, Arts and Education

The Izmir Foundation for Culture, Art and Education (İKSEV) was established in 1985 on the initiative of Dr. Nejat F. Eczacıbaşı. With the sponsorship of the Eczacıbaşı Group, the Foundation organizes the annual International Izmir Festival of music, dance and theatre.
Since 1993, as a member of the European Festivals Association, İKSEV has organized the Izmir European Jazz Festival. In addition to a full program of concerts, the festival provides opportunities for young jazz musicians in Turkey to take part in workshops and masterclasses with festival musicians and ensembles. İKSEV also holds a National Composition Competition every two years named after its founder, Dr. Nejat F. Eczacıbaşı. Since the start of this competition in 1998, the competition has contributed to the composition of close to 200 symphonies by national composers that have enriched Turkey’s polyphonic music culture.
