Sustainability Strategy

The Eczacıbaşı Group's sustainability approach strives to take into account the economic, environmental and social impact of its decisions, activities and plans on people and our planet. In line with our unconditional respect for people and the environment, we are voluntarily integrating sustainability principles into all of our business processes, from production through to marketing, human resources and logistics, and applying them in the development of our products, services, brands, business fields, and choice of technologies.
 
The Eczacıbaşı Group is a leader in embracing sustainability as both a business approach and individual life choice. We have established Sustainability Working Groups to evaluate and benchmark our sustainability performance both locally and globally and to expand the sustainable development activities of our businesses. The Working Groups are also spearheading efforts to enhance employee awareness and knowledge of sustainability issues, so as to assist our companies use their resources more effectively and achieve sustainable success.
 
In accordance with precise guidelines, Eczacıbaşı Group companies report a wide range of operational data, from human resource applications to production, on a quarterly basis. This data is then consolidated centrally on a regular basis to determine Group-wide performance and set quarterly and annual improvement targets. Accordingly, after determining the appropriate parameters, we encourage our companies to measure and evaluate their performance, plan for improvements, and share best practices with each other.
 
In 2008, two years after signing the UN Global Compact, the Eczacıbaşı Group began to publish annual reports of its sustainability activities. In 2010, the Group became the first in Turkey to report consolidated energy consumption and carbon emissions data assured by the international accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
 
All Eczacıbaşı Group sustainability activities are reported to, and led by, the CEO.
 
The Eczacıbaşı Group considers the plastic problem to be a priority matter and is working to find alternative solutions with a much lower environmental impact. Our goal is to eliminate the consumption of single-use plastics in our workplaces and to find ways to reduce the amount of plastic we use in our products and packaging.
 
In 2019, the Eczacıbaşı Group signed the "Business World Plastic Initiative" to combat plastic waste and pollution. The initiative was established by three NGOs in which we are actively involved: Global Compact Turkey, the Business Council for Sustainable Development-Turkey (SKD), and the Turkish Industry and Business Association (TÜSİAD). In accordance with the initiative's guidelines, the Group will determine and announce its plastic consumption reduction targets by end-2020. An internal initiative comprising employees from every Group company will carry out an inventory and analysis of plastic use that will then be used to determine company targets and action plans for 2020 onwards.
